It’s Always Darkest Before the Dawn
Pursuing her exploration of movement and transformative clothes, a concept which has become one of her key signatures, Gioia Seghers’ F/W 2016 collection combines sensuality with ease.
Inspired by Buddhist monks and how they gently drape fabric around their bodies, the Belgian designer attaches matching scarves to coats, dresses and tops, underlining a cosy and cocooning feeling. The protection theme extends to specific styles that refer to military clothing, such as a reworked cropped jacket with grommet detail or a cargo-inspired straight pants.
Fabrics are soft and substantial, while her sharply tailored shapes add edge to the simplest volumes.
Colours are deep and muted, from vibrant burgundy and peaceful blush to lush brown and striking black. Sticking to deluxe textures, the designer gravitates towards crepe, cotton, wool and silk-mix jersey.
Playing with different lengths, contrasting proportions and asymmetrical effects Seghers has developed her own vocabulary and focuses on delicate and timeless clothes.
